Planning Policy
The Planning Policy team is responsible for writing the policies
that planning applications are assessed against, and which shape
the development of the District. Before 2004 the Council had to
prepare a document called a Local Plan, however, in 2004 the
planning system was changed and now the Council is replacing the
Local Plan with the Local Development Framework.
Local Development Framework
The Local Development Framework or LDF is a collection of
different documents which will set out how the District will
develop in the future. Work has started on the preparation of the
LDF for the District, and together these documents will replace the
current Rochford District Replacement Local Plan which was adopted
in 2006.
Local Plans
The current Local Plan is called the Rochford District
Replacement Local Plan (adopted on 16 June 2006). The Local Plan
for the District sets out policies which all planning applications
are assessed against until they are replaced by the LDF. However,
the policies contained in the Rochford District Replacement Local
Plan (2006) were due to expire on 16 June 2009 unless the Council
applied to the Secretary of State responsible for planning for them
to be saved. The majority of these policies have been saved by the
Secretary of State until they are replaced by policies in the Local
Development Framework – details are available on the Replacement
Local Plan 2006 page.
The Rochford District Core Strategy was adopted on 13 December
2011 and replaces a number of the saved Local Plan policies – more
detail is provided within Appendix 1 of the Rochford District Core
Strategy.
