Affordable Housing
The term ‘affordable housing’ relates to homes that are made
available to people who cannot afford to either rent or buy a
property on the open market that meets their needs.
In the main, there are two different types of affordable
housing:
- Social rented - Housing owned and managed by Local Authorities
and Housing Associations.
- Intermediate housing - Housing at prices above those of social
rent but below market price or rent. This includes shared equity
products (e.g. HomeBuy), low cost homes for sale and intermediate
rent.
